When I was in college, my friend Amy and I started a crochet circle. Our slogan was “Keeping people warm since last semester.” We were very cool.

Now Amy, like many of my friends, has a baby. And those babies are what got me back into crocheting. Tiny things are quicker and cheaper to crochet. It was Holli’s idea to add rattles to my baby gift bag repertoire, so I decided to give it a shot. I love any project that allows me to use up the yarn I already have on hand, and this does that nicely.

I decided to start with what we crafty cats love more than anything: ice cream. The first cone I made seemed like it could be a bit big for some tiny hands, so I also made a smaller one. I’ve posted both the patterns and you can decide which one is best for you.

What you’ll need:

Worsted weight yarn, in two colors. One for the ice cream (A), one for the cone (B)

G hook

stitch markers

rattle noise makers, which you can find on amazon

poly-fill

Size: Large scoop is 7″ from the top of the scoop to the bottom of the cone and 8.5″ around at its thickest. Kiddie cone is 6″ long and 7.5″ around

Time needed for project: 1.5 episodes of The Night Of, 1 episode for the kiddie cone.

Stitches used and abbreviations:

single crochet= sc

single crochet dec= sc2tog

back loops only= BLO

dc= double crochet

*This pattern is worked in continuous rounds. When you complete a round, do not join and chain 1. Use a stitch marker to keep track.
