I recently reviewed the Owl Cocoon, and after making one cocoon, I thought why not make another? And since Holli’s little man was scheduled to arrive just in time for Easter and I was experimenting with Chevron stitches, an Easter egg cocoon seemed to be the natural way to go.

What you need:

Lightweight (3) yarn: I used Loops & Threads Snuggly Wuggly in Cool Baby (A), Blue Yonder, Cotton Candy, Cool Turquoise, and Soft Yellow

G Hook

Stitches used:

DC= double crochet

sc= single crochet

DC3tog= double crochet 3 together

HDC= half double crochet

tr= triple crochet

The pattern:

Rounds 1-30 are worked in the round. Rounds 31-42 will be worked in rows.

Ch 30, join without twisting, ch 2

Rd 1: DC in each st (30), join, ch 2 (does not count as first DC)

Rd 2: 2 DC in each st (60), join, ch 2

Rd 3: 2 DC in first st, 1 DC in next, repeat around (90), join, ch 2

Rd 4: 2 DC in first st, 1 DC in next 9 stitches, 2 DC in next stitch, 1 DC in next 8 stitches, repeat around, 1 stitch in stitch number 98 and 99, 2 DC in last st (101), join, ch 2

Rd 5-17: 1 DC in each st (101), join, break off Color A

Join Color B, ch 3

Rd 18-28 DC in same st, DC in each of next 3, *DC3tog over next 3 st, DC in each of next 3, 3 DC in next st, repeat from * around, end with 2 DC in last st, join, ch 2

Change colors as you go for rounds 18-28. I used yellow for rounds 18 and 19, then alternated blue, pink, green, yellow, blue, pink, green, and ended with two rounds of yellow.

Rd 29: sc in first 3 st, *HDC, DC, tr, DC, HDC in next 2, sc in next 4, repeat from *, ending with 2 sc. join to 1st st, join, ch 2

Rd 30: DC in each st, join

Break yarn, sk 28 st, join A. Now, we will work in rows.

Rd 31: DC in each st, do not join, turn, ch 2

Rd 32-42: Repeat rd 31, break yarn, weave in ends

Insert baby and marvel at the cuteness
